Priorities for Awarding Honor

Awarding Honor is one of the most impactful decisions a Host makes. Honor rewards the players for their activities and can help motivate them to want to play again. If too little Honor is consistently given, the players may feel demotivated. If too much Honor is consistently given, the players may not appreciate the Ranks they gain.
The primary goal of awarding Honor is to reward players for investing their time and effort. Time investment is primarily addressed primarily through Mission Honor and Honor for Defeating Evil. Effort is primarily through group and Individual Honor Bonuses.

With this being said, there will be times that the Honor awarded may seem disproportionate when comparing similar situations to each other. This is actually okay if one situation took three or four play sessions to complete where the the other took only one session to wrap up. It is okay to skew up the Honor for the multiple session situation if you think the players really deserve more. You can even call it a "grace bonus" if you like to let them know you are being kind and the amount of Honor is a bit higher than it should have been. However, it is also okay to keep the Honor lower. Especially if the players' choices made the situation take particularly long or if combat was greatly slowed by players who were not ready for their Activation. The lower Honor amount may be a good motivator to make better decision or to move things along. Again, though, make sure to communicate what the players could improve to help avoid having a pattern of low Honor sessions.

Milestone Ranks

While some roleplaying games have begun to incorporate milestone leveling, increasing all the characters levels together after significant points in the storyline, Allies of Majesty plays differently. Characters are not specific to one storyline. Characters will likely play in many different storylines, playing with varying groups of other characters and with differing Ranks. Even if the same play group plays together consistently, some of the players may want to bring in a different character for a while. For these reasons, milestone leveling is not an encouraged practice.
