Tutorial #18: Magnitude & Influence

Each elohim has a Magnitude that measures the weightiness of their spiritual presence. The Magnitude of opposing forces can create advantages for the side with a superior presence.

As holy and fallen elohim become involved in a situation, their combined Magnitude can affect the general atmosphere in the material realm. This influence is called Area Influence and is figured by comparing the total Magnitude of holy elohim to the total Magnitude of fallen elohim. The lesser total is subtracted from the greater and the remaining difference determines the level of Good or Evil Area Influence. Only elohim directly concerned with the situation at hand are considered when determining the Area Influence upon the situation.

Levels of Area Influence are reached and increase at the following superior Magnitude totals:
3 is Slight
7 is Significant
12 is Substantial
21 is Major
40 is Great
80 is Prevailing
144 is Overwhelming

Area Influence is only that, influence. Affected humans will feel anything from a very slight to a nearly overwhelming pressure to adjust their actions toward good or evil, but they will always be able to make a choice that does not conform to the influence.

Area Influence at the beginning of a War can affect starting Inspiration Token and Obstruction Token totals. Inspiration and Obstruction will be explained in Tutorial #20.

In Melee War, a great weight of opposing Magnitude can make it harder to defend against an enemy’s Strikes. This is called Melee Influence.

The total Magnitude of the Defender’s opponents in Melee range of them is compared to the total Magnitude of their allies in Melee range of them. If the Defender’s opponents have a superior total, the Striker has Melee Influence over the Defender. Strikers get a bonus of 1 Adjustment to their Strike for each level of Melee Influence. Levels of Melee Influence are reached and increase at the following superior Magnitude totals: 1, 7, and then every 7 more (14, 21, 28, 35, etc.). 

So, an Striking elohim with a superior Magnitude total of 8 within Melee Range of the Defender would have 2 additional Adjustments to their Strike Roll, having 2 levels of Melee Influence.
