Tutorial #6: Damage

Watch it on YouTube

Damage can be applied to Endurance, Resolve, or Passion and lowers the current value of that Attribute. Other effects can either Increase or Restore Endurance, Resolve, or Passion. Effects that Increase give a temporary bonus to the attribute that can exceed the character’s natural maximum. Effects that Restore are a lasting increase that cannot exceed the character’s maximum.

Increases and damage are temporary changes to the value of a Basic Attribute. The value as currently affected by any Increases or damage is known as the Current Value of the Attribute. The Current Value can affect the values of related War Attributes. For example, by Increasing or damaging Endurance, Stamina, which is derived from Endurance, is also affected. An Attribute’s Natural value does not include Increases or damage, but does include other boosts from things such as Items, which are semi-permanent.

No Attribute can have its Current value reduced below negative 40. If Endurance, Resolve, or Passion are ever reduced to zero or lower, the character’s Status changes to Defeated. Defeated elohim have all their Attributes treated as 0 (even if lower) and suffer additional effects depending on which Attributes they are Defeated in. When Striking a Defeated elohim, the elohim is treated as Exposed. When a Defeated elohim makes any kind of Check, all Passes are ignored.

Elohim Defeated in Endurance are unable to Move or act in any way. They can speak, but only very few words and with great effort. Additionally, their Endurance may not be restored by anything other than normal rest, assisted eating and drinking, or Spiritual Effects and Songs that specifically state that they can Restore Defeated allies.

Elohim Defeated in Resolve have a broken will. They will be completely forthright if interrogated and are not able to resist passive commands, meaning they will do things like go where instructed and hand over items, but will not attack an enemy or do anything that requires much effort.

Elohim Defeated in Passion have no drive. They may be unresponsive or near catatonic. They no longer possess the ability to care about their own concerns or the concerns of others, be they friend or enemy.

If all allied elohim are Defeated or are no longer active in the War, those elohim have lost the War. At that point the Defeated elohim are at the whim of their conquerors.
