Situational Songs

Situational Songs are flexible and creative in nature. Unlike War Songs which must be regimentally practiced and mastered to achieve specific effects, Situational Songs are more spontaneous and fit the situations. Their effects are not as pronounced and powerful as War Songs, but they can be created in the moment to suit the needs of any situation.

The effects of Situational Songs are determined by the Host taking into consideration the singing Minstrel's intentions and the details of the current situation. As a general rule, they should not mimic effects of War Songs unless the War Song is being used as a Situational Song. Frequently Situational Songs will be sung as a form of Social Interaction. There are a few unique considerations when doing this:

  • requires 1 AP, like other Social Interactions

  • humans and elohim can be Targeted out to 12"

  • can only sing 1 Situational Song as a Social Interaction each Turn

  • cannot sing a Situation Songs while Layering 3 War Songs

  • Complexity and invested SPP are only considered and 'in use' until the beginning of the Minstrel's next Turn

When a Minstrel sings a Situational Song as a Social Interaction, they must apply some  SPP, which will enhance the Skill of the Interaction by as much as 3. Using a Song as a Social Interaction also requires that the Minstrel has sufficient Control. The Complexity is added together with any War Songs currently being sung. Each Situational Song used as a Social Interaction has a base Complexity of 12. Investing more SPP increases the Complexity.

Using a Situational Song is considered along with Layering simultaneous War Songs, but is not entirely the same. The total number of simultaneous Songs being sung by the Minstrel can still not exceed 3. This includes Situational Songs, however the Situational Songs are only considered each Turn and not for the entire Segment 1 to Segment A window. The same is true for any SPP invested toward the Situational Song and the Complexity of the Situational Song.
