Situational Songs

Situational Songs are flexible and creative in nature. Unlike War Songs which must be regimentally practiced and mastered to achieve specific effects, Situational Songs are more spontaneous and fit the situations. Their effects are not as pronounced and powerful as War Songs, but they can be created in the moment to suit the needs of any situation.

The effects of Situational Songs are determined by the Host taking into consideration the singing Minstrel's intentions and the details of the current situation. As a general rule, they should not mimic effects of War Songs unless the War Song is being used as a Situational Song.

If a Situational Song is intended to influence another character in a manner similar to a Social Interaction, then it can be used to with Boundless Spark to extend the range of the Interaction out to 12" with no Range penalty, regardless of the Target being a human or another elohim. Doing so also allows the Minstrel to use their SPP to enhance the Skill of the Interaction by as much as 3.

Using a Song is considered along with Layering simultaneous War Songs, but is not entirely the same. The total number of simultaneous Songs being sung by the Minstrel can still not exceed 3. This includes Situational Songs, however the Situational Songs are only considered each Turn they are being sung and not for the entire Cycle. The same is true for any SPP invested toward the Situational Song and the Complexity of the Situational Song. The Minstrel can invest SPP they had used during a Turn earlier in a Cycle for a Situational Song, but they cannot invest SPP that was earlier used for a War Song. The Minstrel does not count the Complexity of a Situational Song in later Turns, but Complexity from War Songs sung earlier in the Cycle does effect the entire Cycle.

Ex. If a Minstrel has just started singing 1 War Song, they could also use up to 2 Situational Songs as Interactions that Turn. If they Layer in a second War Song on their next Turn, they will only be able to use 1 Situational Song as an Interaction that Turn. If the Minstrel is currently Layering 3 War Songs, they cannot also use a Situational Song.

Using a Song as a Social Interaction requires that the Minstrel has sufficient Control. The Complexity is added together with any War Songs currently being sung as well as any other Situational Songs used as Interactions during the current Turn. Each Situational Song used as a Social Interaction has a base Complexity of 12 and using SPP to enhance the Skill of the Interaction increases the Complexity.

Using Songs in this way outside of War is much easier to maximize than when the Minstrel is also focusing on singing one or more War Songs.
